With the cost of Georgia gas at a record high, many Georgia families are struggling to make ends meet. In the past year alone, a gallon of regular unleaded has cost more than $2 in most parts of the state and nearly $4 in Atlanta. Fortunately, the price of gasoline is starting to stabilize thanks to a softening of the oil market and a reversal in the seasonal trend.
A new report by AAA shows Georgia drivers pay an average of $3.56 per gallon of regular unleaded, which is 11 cents more than the previous week. The statewide average is still nearly 20 cents below the national mark and well below last year’s high peak of $4.49 per gallon in June.
Georgia Natural Gas: Understanding the Market, Rates, and Energy Choices
The deregulated nature of the natural gas industry in Georgia allows consumers to choose their own provider, offering a wide variety of rates and plans. Choosing the right plan depends on your needs and budget. For example, a fixed rate plan guarantees a consistent monthly charge and can be locked into a contract for an extended period of time. On the other hand, a variable rate plan is much more flexible and may see prices decrease from month to month.
In addition to supplying natural gas, Georgia’s public utilities provide power and other energy-related services. Approximately 80 municipal gas systems distribute competitively priced natural gas in the state, and two investor owned utilities offer residential and commercial customers competitively priced services as well.
