Jamie Lee EvansJamie Lee Evans,
MSW Director

Jamie was hired in 1991 by the California Youth Connection (CYC) to facilitate a 150-person group envisioning the future of CYC and its work organizing foster youth in California. As a foster care survivor, she says, “the CYC project was like coming home.” Now, as the director of the Y.O.U.T.H. Training Project (YTP), a branded project of CYC, she feels she is doing the work she was meant to do: “I am good at expanding the space around people so they can breathe, express, imagine, heal, grow . . . be.”

Inspired by YTP wellness retreats, she has become a student of Muay Thai Kickboxing. She also enjoys riding her bike, bad reality TV, public radio, and making community with former foster youth. Jamie holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Master’s in Social Work from San Francisco State University.

Sophia HermanSophia Herman,
BA Field Coordinator

Sophia began her advocacy journey in 2002 as a foster youth advocate with the California Youth Connection. She joined YTP in 2007 to strengthen her presentation and advocacy skills. Following four years of service as a youth trainer, Sophia landed a position as the organization’s field coordinator.

Inspired by YTP’s wellness retreats, Sophia has discovered many natural remedies to heal and promote healthy development. When not at work, you can find Sophia reading self-help books, watching True Blood, or managing her coupon collection to find the next best deal—a savings she happily passes on to YTP youth. Sophia holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology from San Diego State University. She plans to obtain her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and wants to provide children with holistic mental health services.
